Art is Revolutionary: Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday at Weir Farm National Historical Park on Flag Day

News Release Date: May 15, 2026 WILTON/RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Weir Farm National Historical Park invites the community to celebrate America’s 250^th birthday at a special event on Sunday, June 14, 2026. As part of the National Park Service’s Freedom 250 commemoration, this family-friendly event encourages visitors to celebrate, contemplate and connect with the ideals of independence through art, creativity and community.

The day-long celebration will feature creative activity stations, complimentary art supplies, refreshments, birthday cake, piano music, open house tours and opportunities for reflection through artmaking. Admission is free. Parking is limited; carpooling is strongly encouraged.

Art is Revolutionary will take place on Flag Day (Sunday, June 14) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy the following activities:

• Create Art in the Park: Make artwork inspired by thought‑provoking prompts about America at 250. Visitors may bring their own art supplies or use complimentary watercolors, pastels and colored pencils provided by the park. Exhibit your artwork on a community clothesline gallery, sharing personal reflections on America at 250 through creative expression, or take it home with you.
• En Plein Air Demonstrations: Members of the Weir Farm Artist Collective will paint throughout the park grounds, offering insights into technique, process and the tradition of American landscape painting that defines Weir Farm’s artistic legacy.
• Explore Historic Studios and House: Explore the Weir Studio, Young Studio and Weir House at your own pace with self-guided exploration throughout the day. Enjoy live music performed by pianist John Tench within the historic atmosphere of the Weir House.
• Enjoy Refreshments and Birthday Cake: The Friends of Weir Farm will provide complimentary refreshments and birthday cake. The Friends of Weir Farm is the park’s authorized philanthropic partner.
• Learn About the Artist-in-Residence Program: Come to the Artist-in-Residence Studio to discover how contemporary artists continue to find inspiration in the landscape that shaped generations of American painters.
• Earn Junior Ranger and B.A.R.K. Ranger Badges: Visitors of all ages can complete fun Junior Ranger activities, while furry friends can become B.A.R.K. Rangers. Owners of pets can create pet portraits.
