Jemez Springs, NM — The main entrance road to Valles Caldera National Preserve will be temporarily closed to public vehicle traffic April 6th and 7th for road improvements and repairs.
During the road closure visitors can experience the preserve from multiple scenic overlook pullouts and access several hiking trails along NM-4.
The main entrance road will reopen to public vehicle use at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021.
About Valles Caldera National Preserve About 1.25 million years ago, a spectacular volcanic eruption created the 13-mile wide circular depression now known as Valles Caldera. The preserve is known for its huge mountain meadows, abundant wildlife, and meandering streams. The area also preserves the homeland of ancestral native peoples and embraces a rich ranching history.
