Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River invites the public to help save lives by showing their support for water safety on “Wear Your Life Jacket to Work” Day on Friday, May 18, 2018. Since 1980, there have been 68 drownings on the Upper Delaware River however nobody has ever drowned wearing a properly fitted life jacket. Whether you are a local school, business, or community organization, everyone can help spread the word that wearing a life jacket can save your life.“Wearing a properly fitted life jacket when on the Delaware River or any body of water whether fishing, boating, swimming, or floating is the most important thing that residents and visitors can do to make their trip both fun and safe,” said Superintendent Kris Heister “The Upper Delaware community plays a critical role as our partner in increasing awareness about the importance of wearing a life jacket when you are on the river.”
This annual event, hosted by the National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) serves as a fun and educational way to kick off National Safe Boating Week, May 19-25, the official launch of the 2018 North American Safe Boating Campaign. The National Safe Boating Week marks the official launch of the 2018 North American Safe Boating Campaign. Educating river users about the safety and importance of life jackets has been a main focus of both the North American Safe Boating Campaign and Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River.
The National Safe Boating Council and Upper Delaware S&RR are asking every participant to take a picture of themselves in their life jacket while at work and post it to the “Ready, Set, Wear It!” Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/ReadySetWearIt) or on Upper Delaware’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/updeNPS). Participants are also encouraged to tweet their pictures using #readysetwearit.
“Wear Your Life Jacket to Work” Day will take place on Friday, May 18 and your participation could save a life!
More information about the event and safe boating is available at www.Facebook.com/ReadySetWearIt.
