 Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve will be replacing segments of the Spanish Pond Trail boardwalk. This project was made possible in part by a grant from the National Park Foundation, the official nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, through generous funding from both corporate and individual donors. Youth members from our partner organization, the American Conservation Experience (ACE), will be conducting the work over the next few weeks.     
 The Spanish Pond Trail is a popular trail that had over 170,000 visitors in 2020. This segment of trail is part of a larger 7.6-mile network of trails that stretch between Fort Caroline National Memorial and the Theodore Roosevelt Area of the park. These improvements will increase visitor satisfaction by updating a portion of the boardwalk that is due for replacement. This work will not result in a closure of the trail network, but visitors may experience active construction along the trail. Tools and supplies on site may force visitors to walk around the active construction. There is no standing water along the boardwalk construction area.    
 Spanish Pond's boardwalk and trail provide an opportunity for a quiet walk and connects you to trails through pine flatwoods, oak hammock, and tidal marsh. Spanish Pond is located across from the entrance to Fort Caroline National Memorial and is open from sunrise to sunset daily.
