Cutaway Exhibit Tour

There are tactile graphics and models as part of the cutaway exhibit.

Locomotive Shop Tour

Some of the gaps between tracks in the locomotive shop have not been filled and have general wear and tear, which can create an uneven surface. Sometimes equipment can be in the way of the usual tour route, and visitors may have to walk near or around equipment that could potentially be sharp, greasy, etc.

Park Facilities

  • We have some tactile maps and exhibits in the Visitor Center and the Technology Museum, including a map of our site and a tactile model of a steam locomotive.
  • Our park brochure is available in Braille for loan at the Visitor Center front desk.
  • All park videos on site have audio, but note that they are not yet audio-described.

Getting Around the Site

  • There are tactile strips at the boarding platform for visitor safety.
  • The boardwalk that connects the parking lot to the platform has tracks running through it. The boardwalk has many loose boards that cause uneven and rough surfaces and can be slippery when icy or wet.
  • The mall ramp that goes from the boardwalk to The Marketplace at Steamtown, runs outside of park boundaries. It is also made of wood and can have the same uneven surfaces as the boardwalk.
  • There are some surfaces surrounding the park buildings that are made of gravel, primarily behind the Park Store. The part of the Railyard that is open to the public is primarily made up of gravel and tracks, and is an uneven surface.
