Created in 2017, the Iron Horse Society is the official friends group for Steamtown National Historic Site. This membership based organizations provides both volunteer and financial support to Steamtown NHS programs and projects. In 2018 the group painted the track shed in the rail yard, promoted the park's excursions and Railfest events and raised over $7000 in support of the park. Lackawanna Wyoming Valley Railway Historical Society (LWVRHS), a chapter of the National Railway Historical Society, partners with Steamtown NHS on a variety of events and programs throughout the year from Railfest to programs at the Moscow Station to Holiday Trains. They are also the park's fund raising partner on the restoration of the Boston and Maine 3713.
The NRHS' Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley Chapter, which sponsors the restoration of Boston & Maine #3713.
The Boston and Maine 3713 steam engine is presently undergoing restoration to be used as a mainline stem engine on park excursions. This project is heavily funded by donations gnerated by the Lackawanna and Wyoming Valley Railway Historical Society.
The Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority, oversees the management of the Lackawanna Heritage Valley State and National Heritage Area. As our local national heritage area, LHVA shares many themes and stories with Steamtown NHS and serves as a partner in numerous projects and programs throughout the year including the Heritage Explorer Train, Christmas in a Small Town:The Santa Train and the Piecing Together the Past Geocaching program.
