CHATFIELD FARM

The Battles of Saratoga occurred on September 19 and October 7, 1777. During the 18 days in between, each side set up observation posts to keep an eye on the other. Flanking Asa Chatfield's Farm to the north and to the south, with a ravine between them, the soldiers in these positions must surely have experienced tense and sleepless hours awaiting a move from "the enemy."

While the calm and peaceful scenery of today is far from the fear and anxiety of those days and hours, the lives and struggles of those on both sides are easier to grasp when standing on the same ground over two centuries later.
