Thousand Oaks, Calif. - Are you ready to get scared (but in a really fun and unique way)? On Saturday, October 27, the National Park Service will host Scare-A-Mount Ranch, a one-of-a-kind event in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The family-friendly Halloween event will combine elements of film history and nature. There will be a hairy legs contest (watch our hilarious video promoting the contest and featuring a real tarantula here). Click here for photos.
Kids activities will include making fake movie blood and nocturnal animal-themed crafts. Groups can choose from two self-guided hikes into the backlot woods. One will be family-friendly and appropriate for children while the other one will suit those folks looking for a little bit more of a scare.
Other activities will include a screening of the 1940 classic Dr. Cyclops, which was shot at Paramount Ranch;a costume contest, face painting, selfies in the jailhouse; a spider zoo; and ranger stations throughout the grounds.
This is a free event with complimentary parking. We recommend bringing a flashlight and dressing warmly.
For nearly 100 years, Paramount Ranch has set the scene for hundreds of movies, TV shows, and photo shoots. That includes a number of monster, paranormal, and other supernatural films and shows, from “The Forbidden Trail” (1932) to “Van Helsing” (2004), and episodes of the X-Files and HBO’s Westworld.
Paramount Ranch is located at 2903 Cornell Rd, Agoura, CA 91301. For more information, please call the Visitor Center at 805-370-2301.
