Point Reyes Station, CA – The public is invited to witness 42 candidates become new American citizens at Point Reyes National Seashore on Tuesday, October 22 at 10:30 am. The ceremony will take place in the Bear Valley group picnic area.
The countries represented by the candidates this year include Austria, Belize, Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, France, Germany, Haiti, Honduras, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nepal, New Zealand, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Spain, and United Kingdom.
"We are pleased to welcome new citizens here at Point Reyes National Seashore," said park superintendent Anne Altman. "We are honored that these candidates chose Point Reyes National Seashore to take the oath of citizenship. It's a moving ceremony, and we hope the public joins us on October 22."
United States Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer, Janet Petrak, will make the keynote address and USCIS District Director Missy Maxim will administer the Oath of Allegiance to America's newest citizens. This Land is Your Land will be sung by students from West Marin School.
The National Park Service and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services have a formal partnership to enhance citizenship ceremonies by holding them in national parks throughout the country. The agreement helps introduce new citizens to some of the nation's most significant natural resources and cultural heritage sites. These historic and picturesque sites provide an ideal backdrop for citizenship ceremonies, where new citizens can learn about and reflect on American identity and the responsibilities of citizenship.
Point Reyes National Seashore is one of more than 400 units within the National Park Service. Point Reyes was established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, "to preserve a portion of the diminishing seashore of the United States that remains undeveloped."
