Pipe Spring National Monument in cooperation with the Kaibab Band of Paiute Indians is proud to offer a guided full moon hike on Thursday, August 15! Encounter Pipe Spring in a completely new illumination. Join a Ranger and our Dark Sky Intern for a guided moonlit hike along the monuments half-mile ridge trail. Come join us in learning about our closest astronomic neighbor. Discover how the full moon affects our natural world, the nocturnal animals of Pipe Spring and how the Southern Paiute viewed the moon.

The hike will be from 8:00 PM MST to 9:00 PM MST. Visitors will meet at the visitor center no later than 7:30 PM MST. The trail is undeveloped with elevation changes of over 100 feet and hikers must wear closed-toed shoes (preferably thick-soled hiking boots). Participants should dress for the weather, bring water, snacks, and a red flashlight if available. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, registration is required to participate. Space for the full moon hike will be limited to 10 participants. To register come to our visitor center and sign up in person on the sign-up sheet or call the visitor center front desk at 928-643-7105. Note, if coming from Utah, Pipe Spring is one hour behind due to Arizona not observing Daylight Savings Time.

For the guided hike, the entrance fee of $10/person will be charged for this event, Interagency passes will be accepted for the guided hike. Pipe Spring National Monument is approximately 21 miles from Kanab, Utah, and 60 miles from St. George, Utah – just off of Arizona Hwy. 389 between the two communities.
