3/12/2024 Au Sable History with Carol Miller[Voice of Carol Miller] I was telling her we had parties on the weekend, we’d have venison steaks, right out there! We would have it, oh yeah, we had the grill and Dave had his guitar and he would play and we’d all sing and have a good time. We loved it out here. Yeah, was nice. Yeah. [Ranger] So your husband was in charge? [Carol] Yeah. [Ranger] You know what kinds of things he did while he was out here? [Carol] Oh, yeah, we would- I would go with him. [Ranger] You would help him? [Carol] Yeah, we would. We’d run up the light, up the stairs, and he’d try and catch me because I would go faster than him. He had to- We had to polish the lens on the light. Couldn't be a mark on it, or no fingerprints or anything - perfect. We’d put the shades up and put the shades down. And then, of course, the fog signal. He made the guys keep that clean, wash it out. Scrub the floors, and stuff like that. [Ranger] How was it living out here with the fog signal? [Carol] It would blow, loud! And at first, I - I thought, oh my goodness, I won't be able to sleep. But, you get used to it. 9/8/2023 NPS Fashion weekPictured Rocks - NPS Fashion Week

Ranger: What's your name and what do you do here? Max: Max Kurtz and I work on the trail crew. Stephanie: My name is Stephanie, and I work in maintenance on the grounds crew. David : My name's David Horne, and I'm the superintendent of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Will: My name is Will Jakeway, and I'm part of the maintenance crew here at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Lara: Hi, I'm Lara Bender. I'm the environmental compliance specialist for the park. Ranger: And what was the first park that you visited? Max: First park I visited was Mammoth Cave National Park. Stephanie: This one, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. David: As a kid, my folks would go to Yosemite a lot, we lived in Sacramento. Will: The first park was actually here at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Lara: Probably Yellowstone. My family went there on a big vacation when I was about 11, and it was awesome. Ranger: And other than Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, what is your favorite park? Max: I got to say, my favorite park that I've been to is Glacier National Park. Stephanie: I like Smoky Mountains. I've been there once. David: That's a trick question! It's obviously Pictured Rocks! They're all wonderful. But if I had to choose, Yosemite is an awesome park. Will: Probably has to be Sequoia National Park. Lara: Isle Royale National Park. It’s beautiful. It's wild. You really feel like you're out in nature. Ranger: Well, now you know some of our first and favorite national parks. Share your park story with us in the comments.
