Contact: Andrea Chynoweth , 906-387-2602 Munising, MI - Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is hosting two “Help Your Park” weed pull events on Saturday, May 28 and Saturday June 4 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Miners Castle area. The target weed will be the blue invasive forget-me-nots. Forget-me-nots, while pretty, are not native to our forests. They spread rapidly and choke out native plants.
The weed pull activity is part of the park’s 50th anniversary celebration and the centennial of the National Park Service. “We want to encourage people not only to ‘Find Your Park’, but also to ‘Help Your Park’ by taking part in activities that foster stewardship,” said Andrea Chynoweth, invasive species educator for the lakeshore.
This is an opportunity for people who love the park to take a more active role in helping to care for it. And it will be a great outdoor activity for families to do together. All ages are welcome. The pretty blue forget-me-nots are easy to identify and easy to pull out. It's spring in the U.P., so be prepared for bugs.
Afterwards, join us for a spring wildflower walk at 1 pm.
For both activities, meet at the Miners Castle Information Center, located six miles north of H-58 at the end of Miners Castle Road. For more information contact Ms. Chynoweth at 906-387-2602.
