Grand Marais and Munising, Michigan – Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore re-opened to visitors today. Visitors can access public areas and roads immediately while facilities and other public services are brought back online. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore had been closed since October 1 due to the lapse in Congressional appropriations.

"We are happy to be back at work and to welcome visitors to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore," said Acting Superintendent Tim Colyer. "Autumn is a particularly special season to enjoy all that Pictured Rocks has to offer."

The Interagency Visitor Center operated by Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the Hiawatha National Forest is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The visitor center is located at the junction of state highway M-28 and county road H-58 in Munising.

Water systems at drive-in campgrounds and elsewhere in the national lakeshore are being closed due to the weather forecast of near freezing temperatures.

"I am fully aware how difficult this has been on everyone in our gateway communities," added Colyer.  "I am hopeful we can make the best of the beautiful weather and remaining fall colors that welcomed us back this morning."
