(Munising, MICH.) The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Artist in Residence for 2010 is Ramona Maziarz from Middletown, Delaware. Ramona is a self taught pen and ink artist. Her artwork is highly detailed, colorful and often humorous. The wonderful way different plants and creatures grow together is what drew her to the study of nature.

Ms. Mariarz has won ribbons and prizes for her images and her artwork is exhibited in fine art festivals along the East Coast and in museums and galleries. Public TV Station WHYY filmed her at work in her studio and in the woods for a program called Experience Delaware.

"Talking to others, traveling to show my artwork has underlined the importance of keeping these natural places and creatures in the front of people's minds," according to Ramona. "As government funding lessens and parks are left out, as buildings overcrowd our wildlife, as technology turns our heads away from the quiet outdoors I think it is important to be a voice that speaks for wildlife. I am glad that I have the opportunity to speak through my artwork."

Ramona will be staying the park the last week in September and the first couple of weeks in October. If you happen to see her in her journeys through the lakeshore, she is more than happy to discuss her work.

Ramona will display her art, discuss nature expressed through artwork, journaling plus anything else the public might want to know or talk about at two "Meet the Artist" days. The Grand Marais day will be Saturday, October 2, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Grand Sable Visitor Center located at E21090 County Road H-58.  The Munising day will be Saturday, October 9, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Interagency Visitor Center located at 400 East Munising Avenue.
