Hiking Outdoors All of the petroglyph viewing trails are outdoors so be prepared for the day's weather and dress accordingly. Always wear shoes that provide ankle support since the trails are along the natural surface which is oftentimes uneven ground. Remember to lock your vehicle, secure your valuables, and set your vehicle's alarm system. Do not invite a thief by leaving valuable items visible inside your car. Petroglyph viewing trails are as follows: Boca Negra Canyon- Open 8:30 am - 4:30 pm daily. Last entry at 4:00 pm is strictly enforced. Developed trail system with paved trails, shaded seating areas, picnic tables, restrooms, and drinking fountain. See approximately 100 petroglyphs in one hour. Pets are not allowed. Rinconada Canyon- Open 8:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. Undeveloped trail system, 2.2 miles round trip along the natural surface. Parking lot is located at Unser Blvd. NW at St. Joseph. Vault restroom at trail head. Water is not available. See approximately 300 petroglyphs in 1.5-2 hours. Leashed pets are not allowed on the petroglyph viewing portion of the trail. Please walk your pet on the trail in the middle of the canyon. Piedras Marcadas Canyon- Open daily sunrise to sunset. Undeveloped trail system, 1.5 miles round trip along the natural surface. Parking lot is located off Golf Course Road and Jill Patricia St. Restroom and water are not available. See approximately 400 petroglyphs in 1.5-2 hours. Leashed pets are allowed. Non petroglyph viewing trail system: Volcanoes Day Use Area- Parking lot hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Undeveloped trail system, 1 mile to 4 miles round trip along the natural surface. Parking lot is located off Atrisco Vista Blvd. NW, approximately 4.8 miles north of I-40. Vault restroom is available in the parking lot. Water is not available. Leashed pets are allowed.
