Railroad Crossing Closure May Affect Travel to Petrified Forest National Park

Holbrook AZ: Starting at 1:00pm on October 22nd, the railroad crossing on highway 77 in Holbrook will be closed for maintenance. The closure will last through October 25th. This closure may affect travel to Petrified Forest National Park. Visitors traveling eastbound on I-40 must either access the Painted Desert area of the park at exit 311 or take SR 87 in Winslow to Payson, east to SR 260 to SR 277, then north on SR 377 to Highway 180 to access the south, Rainbow Forest area of the park. Travelers from the east will be able to access the south entrance by driving through the park on the park road but access to westbound I40 will require backtracking through the park returning to I-40 exit 311.

Commercial vehicles are allowed on the park roads only for local deliveries. Check the Arizona Department of Transportation website for more information on alternative routes in the area. SR 77 (Navajo Blvd.) - RR Crossing Replacement, Holbrook | ADOT (azdot.gov)
