Petrified Forest, AZ-The National Park Service (NPS) turns 96 years old August 25, a day known as Founders Day.
As such, NPS Director Jon Jarvis has asked every National Park site to invite children to experience these places that they own.
Petrified Forest National Park is therefore pleased to celebrate Founders Day with the following special family friendly event:
What: simulated paleontology digs
When: August 25, 2012 (several programs throughout the day)
Where: Chinde Point area
How long: approximately 90 minutes
Each dig will start with a brief presentation about the NPS, its significance, and the Triassic time period that Petrified Forest represents. This will be followed immediately by a fun, hands-on exploration for fossils. Due to the size of the site, reservations are required. For more information or to make a reservation, contact Sarah Herve at 928-524-6228, x264 or Sarah_Herve@nps.gov .
Happy Founders Day to you!
