Petrified Forest—Visitors to the park can earn a special Junior Ranger badge and patch by participating in a variety of fun and educational activities on Saturdays from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm during the summer. Activities will focus on the subjects of paleontology, archeology, United States history, and arts and crafts. Locations will vary so feel free to call the park or visit the park website for more details. July 16 Museum Detectives at Rainbow Forest Museum: what can you discover from the ancient clues? July 23 Sandbox Archeology at Painted Desert Visitor Center: Dig into the past! July 30 Petroglyph making at Painted Desert Visitor Center: connect with the ancestral Puebloans. August 6 Paint the Painted Desert at Painted Desert Inn National Historic Landmark: bring out your creativity! August 13 Origami at Rainbow Forest Museum: create your own dinosaurs through this ancient art of folding paper. August 20 Sandbox Paleontology at Painted Desert Visitor Center : Dig into the past!
