Increase in Visitation for January 2006 at Petrified Forest National Park Petrified Forest, AZ – Park Superintendent Lee Baiza announced the visitation for January was up by 14% over last year with 23,991 visits compared to last year’s 21,078. Vacation souvenirs have always been popular but collecting anything from Petrified Forest National Park is forbidden by law. But there is a legal way for visitors to have their own piece of petrified wood. Petrified wood is found over a large area of the four corners region so the shops that sell the wood get it from private land.
