Decrease in Visitation for February 2007 at Petrified Forest National Park Petrified Forest, AZ – Park Superintendent Lee Baiza announced that visitation decreased by 17% this February from last year with 21,120 visits compared to last year’s 25,424. The year to date total is 39,936 which is down by 19%. Route 66 enthusiasts now have a special pull-out at Petrified Forest National Park. About six miles from the park’s I-40 entrance, a new stop features the old alignment of Route 66. A wayside exhibit shows a map of the entire route from Chicago to Los Angeles and recalls the Mother Road’s colorful past. The weathered remains of a 1930s Studebaker, placed near the pull-out, is becoming a popular subject for photographers.
