Decrease in Visitation at Petrified Forest National Park for August, 2006

Petrified Forest, AZ – Park Superintendent Lee Baiza announced that visitation decreased 14% this August from last year with 64,930 visits compared to last year’s 75,807. The year-to-date total is 437,250 which is down by 3% from last year.

The Arizona monsoon season is usually over by September but late rains have produced a spectacular fall wildflower display. Yellow flowers are the most prominent such as wild buckwheat, snakeweed, and camphorweed. The orange globe mallows line the road in many places.
