Petrified Forest National Park 2015 Artists-in-Resident Sculptor/Cartoonist Shing Yin Khor invites everyone to join her at the NPC White Mountain Campus (Show Low) for a demonstration/presentation.

Petrified Forest, AZ—Join Petrified Forest National Park's Artist-in-Resident Sculpture Shing Yin Khor on September 30th, 2015 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm for a presentation/demonstration at the Northland Pioneer College ( NPC) White Mountain Campus in Show Low. This program will be presented in Video I class room and will have a live feed to other NPC campus' spread out about Arizona.Trained as a theatrical scenic designer, Shing Yin Khor is now a sculptor and cartoonist obsessing over building tiny universes for her awkward, anxious creatures to exist in. Her work has been exhibited across the United States, and acclaimed for its off-kilter charm and narrative. Born in Malacca, a port city of Malaysia—and raised between cultures on a diet of fantasy tropes and post-colonial detritus—she currently calls Los Angeles home.

Sculpting awkward, charming, and awkwardly charming creatures trapped in a world of human fallibility, Shing Yin says, "My themes are inspired by historical hoaxes, old museums, cabinets of curiosities, cryptozoology, early scientific illustration, medieval monster design and pre-Linnaean taxonomy; my palettes are inspired by the more obnoxiously colorful parts of nature, especially invertebrates."

Shing Yin will also be conducting a presentation on October 1st, 2015 at the Rainbow Forest Museum from 10:00am to 4:00pm located at the south end of the Petrified Forest National Park on Highway 180. These events are free and open to the public with the exception of standard park entrance fees.
