2007 Petrified Forest National Park Art and Essay Contest Reception

Petrified Forest, AZ – Winners of the 2007 Art and Essay Contest at Petrified Forest National Park received awards during two recent events. During a small reception at Painted Desert Inn on December 1, winners discussed their art and essay entries, received their prizes, and viewed a display of all submitted entries with their family members.

On December 7, Ranger Marge Post visited Mrs. Julie Wiessner’s classroom at Hulet Elementary to present the contest winners with an additional certificate of congratulations from Senator John McCain. Gifts were also presented to all students who entered the contest to encourage them to continue developing their creative writing and artistic skills.

Entries for the contest were received from Mrs. Wiessner’s 4th Grade students. Winners in Art were: 1st place: Jasper McAde Frye, 2nd place: Angel Benitez, Honorable Mention: Denyce Hawk. Winners in Essay were: 1st place: Logan Anselmo, 2nd place: Angel Benitez, Honorable Mention: Jasper McAde Frye.

The 1st place winners received a $50 Petrified Forest Museum Association (PFMA) gift certificate. 2nd place winners received a $25 PFMA gift certificate. Honorable Mention winners received the PFMA book: Petrified Forest: A Story in Stone.

All artwork and essays submitted for the contest will be on display at Painted Desert Inn through the month of December. The winning entries and photos can be viewed here.
