CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Padre Island National Seashore has awarded EA Engineering, Science and Technology, Inc. to provide the National Park Service (NPS) and Padre Island National Seashore with preliminary planning services as the park considers the need for a beach management plan.

“The NPS wants to ensure that the operations at Padre Island National Seashore are grounded in science and best practices so that it remains a world-class destination,” said Padre Island National Seashore Superintendent Eric Brunnemann. “While we are very early in the planning process, there will be opportunities for public comment and feedback over the course of the next year.”

EA Engineering, Science and Technology, Inc. will assist park leadership in reviewing the park’s enabling legislation and administrative history, park planning documents, contemporary uses of the beach, current management practices, and scientific and resource studies. Park leadership will review these materials in evaluating the scope of a future beach management plan, associated environmental issues, and a potential proposed action and preliminary alternatives. EA Engineering will also assist the park in soliciting public comment on these early planning topics. This information would then be used to determine if a proposed action and alternatives would be carried forward to the federal environmental review process.

The park’s website (nps.gov/pais) and Facebook page (@PadreIslandNPS) will be updated to inform the public of engagement opportunities, both in person and online.
