Crews at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument have successfully completed a road paving project on Ajo Mountain Drive and the road has re-opened for use.On April 3, 2023 the road closed to allow crews to pave a stretch of the road prone to flooding during summer storms. The section of road that was paved stretches approximately 2 miles from Arch Canyon trailhead to Estes Canyon Trailhead. This road improvement project was funded by recreation fees collected in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. The Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA) allows the NPS to collect and retain revenue and requires that fee revenue be used to enhance the visitor experience.
