SAN FRANCISCO - The National Park Service has selected Jeremy Curtis to serve as the next superintendent of Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve. He replaces Vicki Snitzler who retired after 32 years of service in May.
“Jeremy is a rising star whose collegial leadership style and facilities management experience makes him very well suited for Oregon Caves,” said Stan Austin, regional director for the National Park Service’s Pacific West Region. “We look forward to the work he and his team will accomplish in the coming years restoring the park’s numerous historical buildings and improving the visitor experience.”
Curtis has more than 20 years’ experience working with the National Park Service. He comes to Oregon Caves from Saguaro National Park in Arizona, where he is currently the chief of maintenance. He oversees a complex portfolio of locations and park assets, working with all divisions as well as outside agencies and partners to meet the mission of his current park.
“I am honored to be selected to lead a team that preserves not only the geological and natural resources of Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve but also the history and culture that has helped shape the park,” said Curtis. “I look forward to working with the dedicated staff, park partners and the local community in the continued preservation of the park.”
Curtis began his career working on backcountry trail crews at Yellowstone National Park. After holding several seasonal positions in parks such as Big Bend National Park in Texas, City of Rocks National Reserve in Idaho, Chiricahua National Monument and Saguaro National Park in Arizona, Curtis settled in Arkansas at Buffalo National River for several years. In 2005, Curtis moved back to Arizona where he has held positions at several Arizona parks as a trails supervisor and then as chief of facility operations for the Southeast Arizona Park Group.
