Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve is Currently Closed due to the Slater Fire

The Slater Fire started on September 7th, 2020. The fire spans across the Oregon-California border and is currently situated to the south of Oregon Caves National Monument. A Type I incident team is assigned to the northern section of the fire.

Efforts are underway to protect the Oregon Caves National Historic District, including outdoor sprinkler systems to protect the Chalet and Chateau.

Travel into the Illinois Valley and the town of Cave Junction is strongly discouraged at this time due to current Level 2 (prepared to leave upon official notice) evacuation notice. Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve is currently under a Level 3: Go evacuation order. Please call the Illinois Valley Visitor Center in Cave Junction for current information, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, 541-592-4076
