Hurricane RidgeHurricane Ridge Road may be open as conditions allow on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through the winter season. Check the Alerts section at the top of this page for status updates. Overnight camping is not permitted in the Hurricane Ridge parking lots. The area is staffed intermittently with limited services. Bring what you will need.The Heart o' the Hills campground is open. Hurricane Hill Road (1.5 miles, not suitable for RVs or buses) beyond the Hurricane Ridge Parking Area is currently closed. Obstruction Point Road is currently closed. Not suitable for RVs, trailers, or buses. 2026 Construction Plans A major rehabilitation project will replace an aging water system and upgrade utilities in the Hurricane Ridge developed area. From July through August, construction will continue with minimal impacts to parking as needed. Some meadow trails may be rerouted to accommodate trenching work. As required by policy, archaeologists will be on site to survey ground disturbing activities. Portable restrooms and a temporary water system will be installed and used as needed. Asphalt patching and road striping may require a one-day closure. Elwha ValleyAlthough the Elwha/Olympic Hot Springs Road is closed to vehicles at the Madison Falls parking area due to a road washout, the road is open to pedestrians, stock, bicyclists, and pets on leash. A toilet is open at the Madison Falls Trailhead, but no further facilities are available beyond the gate. Please pack out all trash. Lake CrescentThe Lake Crescent area is open. This includes the Barnes Point area and restrooms as well as Bovee’s Meadow picnic area, Marymere Falls and Moments in Time trailheads. The Storm King and Fairholme boat launches are open. North Shore Picnic Area on Camp David Jr. Road is open. Sol Duc Valley
OzetteThe Ozette area is currently open. The Ozette Campground (primitive) is open but often closes in the winter due to flooding. All campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. MoraMora Road and Rialto Beach are open. The Mora area is subject to close on short notice for safety due to hazardous weather. Call the recorded Road & Weather line at 360-565-3131 to check current status and area information. In 2019, severe winter flooding along the Quillayute River eroded the riverbank at mile post 1.25 on Mora Road. Temporary riprap was installed as an emergency measure, but a permanent fix is needed to protect long-term access to Rialto Beach. These repairs will fortify the road against continued river migration and flooding events. Between April and July 7, construction work will require a short single‑lane traffic section near milepost 1.25. The Dickey Boat Launch and trailer parking area will be closed for construction staging. No construction will occur during the Fourth of July weekend. From July 8–Oct. 5, construction crews will need to close both lanes to pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle traffic beyond the Mora Campground. Rialto Beach will not be accessible via Mora Road during this construction period. Mora Campground will remain open. Visitors should consider alternative beaches, such as Ruby Beach, during the construction period. KalalochThe Kalaloch area is open. Hoh Rain ForestThe Hoh Rain Forest area, including trails, parking areas, and restrooms, is open. Queets Rain ForestLower Queets Road is open. Upper Queets Road and Queets Campground (primitive) are open. StaircaseThe Staircase area and campground are currently closed due to wildfire impacts. Wilderness Camping PermitsAll Wilderness Camping Permits must be obtained in advance. Trailhead permits are not available. Wilderness Camping Permits are reservable online at Recreation.gov through the Olympic National Park Wilderness Permit page prior to the planned trip or over the phone.
