Become an Obed Jr. Ranger

The official NPS Obed Wild and Scenic River Junior Ranger program introduces children and those young at heart to the rugged beauty, wildlife, and outdoor adventure of Obed Wild and Scenic River. Through hands-on activities, puzzles, and exploration, participants discover the unique river ecosystem, towering sandstone cliffs, and rich natural resources that make this park special.

Junior Rangers learn about the plants and animals that live along the Obed River, the importance of protecting clean water and healthy forests, and how the National Park Service preserves wild and scenic rivers for future generations.

Get Started

Pick up a Junior Ranger booklet at the Obed Wild and Scenic River Visitor Center or download a copy of the Junior Ranger booklet before your visit. The visitor center also has a Spanish version available upon request.

Earn Your Badge

Complete the activities in the booklet during your visit. When you’re finished, bring your booklet to the visitor center where a park ranger will review your work. If you’ve already left the park, you can mail in your booklet and receive your badge in the mail.

National Junior Ranger Program

The National Junior Ranger Program is a fun way for kids and families to explore parks while learning about nature, conservation, and outdoor skills. Participants complete activities in themed booklets that encourage observation, discovery, and stewardship of the natural world.

You can pick up Junior Ranger booklets at Obed Wild & Scenic Visitor Center or download them to complete at your own pace. After finishing the activities, bring your completed booklet to the Visitor Center to become an official Junior Ranger.

Participants who complete a booklet can earn a special item, such as a badge, patch, or sticker, while joining a nationwide community of young explorers dedicated to learning about and protecting our parks.
