“Joshua has extensive experience in cultivating and fostering integral relationships with communities, staff and partners,” said Ramos. “His commitment to teamwork and collaboration make him the perfect fit to lead Ninety Six National Historic Site as we prepare to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.”
“This is a dream opportunity for which I am extremely grateful and honored to have been selected,” said Manley. “I look forward to fostering relationships and connecting with the local community, stakeholders and visitors as we work to tell more inclusive and often untold stories about the people who shaped the history of our park and nation.”
Manley, a U.S. Army combat veteran, began his NPS career in 2014. He served as the fire communication and education specialist for the North Atlantic-Appalachian, National Capital Area and South Atlantic-Gulf regions, and oversaw outreach efforts and supported incident management activities. Since 2018, Manley served as the management analyst, acting administrative officer and project manager for the five diverse park sites in Western Pennsylvania, including Allegheny Portage Railroad and Friendship Hill national historic sites, Flight 93 and Johnstown Flood national memorials and Fort Necessity National Battlefield. Here, he directed interdisciplinary projects and initiatives, managed complex events and issues and led the parks’ partnership efforts.
Originally from Franklin, Ohio, Manley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Miami University, where he focused on Colonial America and the Revolutionary War. He and his wife, Lucy, are both former college coaches that still enjoy coaching baseball and softball for their children, Max and Stella, and their respective teams. Manley is also an avid bass fisherman. They look forward to relocating to South Carolina and exploring the abundant resources in the area.
Ninety Six National Historic Site is grouped administratively with three additional parks: Cowpens National Battlefield, Kings Mountain National Military Park and the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail, overseen by group superintendent Diana Bramble. Together, these parks share resources and support each other.
“I am tremendously excited to welcome Joshua to our team,” said Bramble. “He will serve a critical role as the front-line leader for the park staff and volunteers and as the liaison for community engagement. I look forward to supporting him as he transitions into this new position.”
