Be A Junior Ranger

Are you ready to Explore, Learn, and Protect?

Welcome to New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park’s Junior Ranger program! The park is excited to have you become a steward and help continue to preserve and protect your national parks. At this park, you have two options for how to become an official Junior Ranger as well as earn other types of badges. The Junior Ranger Activity Book and the Journey through New Bedford e-book is available for free at the National Park Visitor Center or download/open the books below.

To begin, open your paper book or e-book and have fun discovering and exploring this urban park while learning about how and why we need to protect the special treasures found in National Parks. We need the help of all our park stewards to keep New Bedford preserved and protected for many more years to come.

When you’re done with your paper book, return it to a ranger or volunteer at the visitor center desk and take the Junior Ranger pledge. After the pledge, you'll be awarded an official New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park Junior Ranger badge and a signed certificate.

If you are in the park with the Journey through New Bedford e-book and would like paper certificate and badge, simply show the ranger or volunteer your completed e-book page from your mobile device. After showing the ranger or volunteer, you will take the Junior Ranger pledge and receive your very own New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park Junior Ranger badge and signed certificate.

Short on Time?

What if you don't have enough time to finish the book while you are in the park? No problem! Send your book back to the park when you complete it. A ranger will check your work and mail the book back to you with a badge and signed certificate.

Are you unable to travel to the park but still want to be a Junior Ranger?

Not able to visit the park? Still not a problem! Download and complete the Junior Ranger Activity Book or open the Journey to New Bedford Junior Ranger e-book below. Send your book back to the park when you complete it by mail or email. A ranger will check your work and mail the book back to you with a badge and signed certificate.
