HEADQUARTERS, TUPELO, MS: "During October 2015, the Natchez Trace Parkway experienced a slight decrease in the number of recreational visits over the 2014 figures," stated Superintendent Mary Risser. "This year, 518,523 used the Parkway during October 2015 compared to 523,467 who were counted in 2014." The continued drop in numbers is attributed to faulty traffic counters located in the high traffic areas in Raymond, Ridgeland, Kosciusko, and Tupelo, MS. The Parkway continues to work with the office that collects the data to correct the problem with the traffic counters.
These numbers continue to put the Natchez Trace Parkway on track to be among the top ten most visited National Park Service sites. The Natchez Trace Parkway has numerous recreational activities to match any interest or experience level. Whether camping, motorcycling, hiking, biking, boating, fishing, or horseback riding there are countless opportunities to experience the history, culture, and natural resources of the area.
