Natchez Trace Parkway Reports Motorcycle Collision with Fatality

MAURY COUNTY, TN - On Saturday, August 27, 2016, at approximately 1:26 p.m., the Natchez Trace Parkway Communications Center received notification of a single motorcycle collision near milepost 410, near Duck River, TN. U.S. Park Rangers, Maury County Sheriff and Tennessee Highway Patrol responded. 

The vehicle, a Harley Davidson Trike motorcycle, was operated by Phillip Cothern, 54, of Cedar Hill, TN. His wife Cynthia Cothern, 56, also of Cedar Hill was a rear passenger on the motorcycle trike. It appeared that as the motorcycle was northbound on the Parkway it left the road and struck a tree, fatally injuring Cynthia Cothern. Phillip Cothern was transported by air ambulance to Vanderbilt Trauma Center. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Agencies assisting with the collision included the Maury County Sheriff's Department, Maury Regional Emergency Medical Services and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The Parkway Visitor Center near Tupelo, MS, is open 9am-4:30pm seven days a week. The visitor center is closed Thanksgiving, December 25th and January 1st.
