MORRISTOWN, NJ – Morristown National Historical Park (NHP) continues to celebrate its 90th anniversary as the nation’s first National Historical Park with special programs scheduled for the weekend of July 21-23.Mark your calendars for:
Friday, July 21 at 5:00 p.m. — Sounds of the Revolution with the Middlesex County Volunteers Fifes & Drums In search of the American sound, the Middlesex County Volunteers Fifes & Drums from Massachusetts will take you on a tour of music from the countries that participated in the American War for Independence. The Middlesex County Volunteers are one of the nation’s top fife & drum corps and have performed with the Boston Pops and at Colonial Williamsburg.*Location: Grounds of Washington’s Headquarters Museum, 30 Washington Place, Morristown, New Jersey. Please bring your own chair or a blanket. In case of rain, the concert will be moved inside.
Saturday, July 22 at 1:00 p.m.— Pianist Peter Toth and the Park’s 1873 Steinway Grand Piano Please join Morristown NHP in welcoming back renowned pianist Peter Toth just off a successful European tour. Dr. Toth will play the park’s 1873 Steinway grand piano which has been restored to its 19th-century pitch. Dr. Toth will perform a selection of American and European composers. The program will include Frederick Chopin, Amy Beach, Arthur Foote, Scoot Joplin, and Robert Schumann.*Location: Washington’s Headquarters Museum, 30 Washington Place, Morristown, New Jersey. Seating limited, first-come, first-served.
Sunday, July 23 at 2:00 p.m. — Composer Robert W. Butts Premier of the Jockey Hollow Suite The Baroque Orchestra will perform a special concert celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Morristown NHP as the nation's first national historical park. Music will include selections that would have been familiar to those who spent the winter of 1779-1780 in Morristown as well as the world premiere of Jockey Hollow Suite. This program is the capstone event of the 90th anniversary year. Funded in part by a Morris Arts grant, the Jockey Hollow Suite is intended to reflect the threads and themes of the past and future of the American story as experienced in the hard winter of 1779-1780. Composed by internationally recognized conductor and composer Robert W. Butts this program is not to be missed. *Location: Washington’s Headquarters Museum, 30 Washington Place, Morristown, New Jersey. Seating limited, first-come, first-served.
