MORRISTOWN, NJ – Morristown National Historical Park (NHP) continues to celebrate its 90th anniversary as the nation’s first National Historical Park with programing scheduled for Saturday, November 11 at 1:00 p.m.
New Jersey author Jeffrey E. Finegan Sr. returns to Morristown to introduce the latest book in his I Knew George Washington series. George Washington, My Dear Grandpapa is a portrait of our first president as told through the eyes (and letters) of Martha’s granddaughter, Nelly Parke Custis. At age ten Nelly came to live with the Washingtons in the presidential mansions, and the book offers an intimate glimpse of George Washington as a family man.
Finegan also will discuss his previous books in the series: Colonel Washington and Me, ‘Tis Well, and My Dear General. All are reminiscences of Washington as narrated, respectively, through the eyes of his enslaved servant William Lee, his personal physician Dr James Craik, and his “adopted” son, the Marquis de Lafayette. These three men, fittingly, served with Washington in Morristown during the winter encampment of 1779-1780. All titles will be available for purchase in the Washington’s Headquarters Museum store and will be signed by the author.
