Rescue Completed Near Paradise on Mount Rainier

Paradise, WA – Mount Rainier National Park rangers and Mountain Rescue Association (MRA) teams completed rescue operations above Paradise for an individual who fell during a hike near Glacier Vista on Thursday afternoon, November 28, 2019.

The individual’s partner reported the incident to rangers at Paradise and a search was initiated. Overnight, search teams located the individual who had sustained potentially-life threatening injuries during the fall. The patient was raised up to the Paradise meadows area by NPS/MRA using a technical rope system. He was then transported to Paradise by sled and transferred to Airlift Northwest for medical care. 

Mount Rainier National Park staff and volunteer Nordic Patrol, and Tacoma, Olympic, and Seattle mountain rescues were involved in the rescue operations.

Incident management personnel appreciate the public’s patience in honoring the unexpected closure of the road to Paradise today due to search related helicopter activity. The road will go back on regular winter operations on Saturday, November 30.
