Richmond, Va. – The National Park Service (NPS) Regional Director Gay Vietzke today announced the selection of Scott Teodorski as the new superintendent of both Richmond National Battlefield Park and Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site in Richmond, Virginia. He is expected to begin his tour of duty at the end of July.
"Scott brings extensive experience working with partners to deliver optimal park experiences to local communities and visitors,” said Deputy Regional Director Kirsten Talken-Spaulding. “He has worked at Civil War and reconstruction sites to highlight our nation’s journey towards improving civil rights for all.”
“I am very excited to be part of an amazing team managing these very special places,” said Teodorski. “There is so much to learn and explore at these parks. I look forward to working with park staff and community partners to showcase the wide range of stories represented at these sites.”
Teodorski joins the NPS Northeast Region from Reconstruction Era National Historical Park in South Carolina, where he served as the site’s first permanent superintendent since 2018. There, he oversaw the foundational work for a new NPS site and established and developed partnerships with a number of local organizations. Before that, he was the chief of interpretation at Congaree National Park, also in South Carolina. From 2002 to 2015 he was a park ranger in interpretation at Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in Kentucky. He previously worked in Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky and Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Nevada.
Teodorski attended Western Kentucky University, where he majored in geography with an emphasis in conservation and natural resources. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Kate, and experiencing the great outdoors through hiking, biking and photography.
