Oak Ridge, Tennessee: On August 14th, 1945, President Harry S. Truman addressed the nation, “I have received this afternoon a message from the Japanese Government…” Upon hearing the news of the end of World War II, thousands of Manhattan Project workers and their families filled Jackson Square.

This program, VJ Day: The War’s End in Oak Ridge, explores the responses of civilian workers of the Manhattan Project and project leaders to the announcements of World War II’s end.
