All National Park Service sites, including Lassen Volcanic National Park, will offer free admission to visitors on September 29 for National Public Lands Day. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of this fee free day to explore and discover the beauty and recreational opportunities that Lassen Volcanic National Park has to offer,” said Acting Superintendent Louise Johnson. “There is much for the public to experience and enjoy in the parklands and forests of northern California.”

As visitors arrive at Lassen Volcanic National Park, they will be greeted at the entrance by members of the Lassen Association, who will provide information about the park, offer opportunities to purchase a hiking map, and present more information about their organization. The Lassen Association is an important partner of Lassen Volcanic National Park as a non-profit organization that provides a wide variety of books and educational materials for visitors to purchase. Donations made by the Lassen Association help fund the park newspaper and support the park’s interpretive programs and services.

Nine federal agencies, 125 state and local partners, dozens of non-profit organizations, tens of thousands of individuals, and national sponsor Toyota Motor Sales, USA are expected to participate in more than one thousand volunteer projects across the country. Please visit http://www.publiclandsday.org for more information.

One third of the land in the United States has been set aside as open space. 600 million acres of parks, refuges, forests, wetlands, cultural sites, and other shared areas provide a variety of public resources.

National Public Lands Day is the only time that entrance fees are waived systematically on public lands throughout the country. Normally, 147 of the country’s 391 National Park Service sites charge entrance fees ranging from $3 to $25.

The other 244 areas do not have entrance fees. U.S. Veterans are admitted to national parks for free each year on Veteran’s Day. The other federal agencies not charging for admittance on National Public Lands Day include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Reclamation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the U.S. Forest Service.

For more information, please contact the park at (530) 595-4444, Monday through Friday, except holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or visit the park website at www.nps.gov/lavo.
