MINERAL, CA - Opportunities to enjoy Lassen Volcanic National Park continue through August and September with special events and a fee free entrance day on September 22.
“Late-summer events in Lassen Volcanic are focused on fostering stewardship of the park and region,” said Superintendent Jim Richardson. “Visitors can learn more about sustainable choices, support local artists, and celebrate stewardship of our public lands.”
Throughout Labor Day weekend, August 31 to September 3, campers can receive a free, refillable one-pound propane canister in exchange for two empty, disposable canisters. Representatives from California Product Stewardship Council will be at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center from 1 pm to 5 pm on Friday, August 31. Park staff will continue to offer exchanges between 9 am and 5 pm inside the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center through Monday. Visitors can learn about refillable propane cylinders and the council’s free, safe disposal program. This program is offered in partnership with Tehama County Solid Waste Management Agency, CalRecycle, and the ReFuel Your Fun Campaign. To locate refill and exchange locations near you visit ReFuelYourFun.org.
The ninth annual Art, Wine & Brew of Lassen will take place on September 8 at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center between 11 am and 5 pm. Enjoy unique wares from local artisans including photography, paintings, pottery, woodwork, as well as wine and craft beer. A $10 tasting fee includes a commemorative glass. This special event is hosted by the park concessioner, California Guest Services.
Entrance to Lassen Volcanic National Park and all federal recreation sites is free on Saturday, September 22. Celebrate National Public Lands Day by giving back and enjoying your favorite outdoor places. This year’s focus is on resilience and restoration. Public land managers, partners, and volunteers work tirelessly to protect and restore areas from natural disasters like the Carr Fire at nearby Whiskeytown Recreation Area.
Lassen Association field seminar series wraps up with a two-day nature photography workshop on September 21 and 22. Participants can learn how to use Lassen Volcanic’s stunning landscape and diversity of ecosystems to improve their skills making photographs. Instructor and University of California, Davis professor Terry Nathan combines in-class and hands-on photography experiences to aid in the creation of more compelling photographs of Lassen’s wonders. Learn more or register at go.nps.gov/lavo/seminar.
This summer’s ranger-led programs conclude on September 2. View the program schedule and descriptions at go.nps.gov/lavo/programs. The Loomis Museum and Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center are open from 9 am to 5 pm. The Loomis Museum will transition to Friday through Sunday only on October 9.
