Animals of Lake Mead

Lake Mead National Recreation Area supports an amazingly diverse selection of animals. Under cover of evening's darkness, and in the shady places of canyons and brush, are thriving animal communities. Animals living here have evolved traits that help them cope with the extreme environment. Most adaptations center around avoiding heat, conserving water and surviving on a meager food supply.

A keen eye and a sense of how wildlife survives in this wild land will improve your chances of seeing some of the area's common and more extraordinary animals.
