Dyea Campground Closed Due to Bear Activity and Property Damage

There have been numerous reports of bear encounters, and bears damaging camping equipment in the National Park Service (NPS) Dyea campground in the last few days.

There have been other bear sightings around Skagway. Both black bears (Ursus americanus) and brown bears (Ursus arctos) live in the area. Before hiking and camping in and around the park, please educate yourself on bear safety. Information can be found online at https://www.nps.gov/articles/hiking-in-bear-country.htm or in person by watching the 20-minute bear safety film at the Chilkoot Trail Center on Broadway between 5th and 6th.
 

PLEASE BE BEAR AWARE

• Hike in groups
• Bring bear spray
• Make noise
• Never leave food unattended
