The Brooks Camp Visitor Center will be open through October 13, 2014. Rangers will be available to answer questions and provide mandatory bear safety orientations from 8 AM to 5 PM September 18-30 and 9 AM to 5 PM October 1-13. Traditionally, this visitor center closed for the season on September 18.

“Bears are hyperphagic and still very active in late September,” notes Diane Chung, Superintendent of Katmai. “This is the most critical feeding time of the year for bears. It is important that anyone who visits Brooks Camp receives a bear safety talk from rangers so we can lessen our impact on the animals and have the safest experience possible.”

The Brooks Camp Campground remains open as well and costs $6 per person per night September 18 through October 31. America the Beautiful Access and Senior pass holders can enjoy 50% discounts on camping reservations. Please note that fees for this campground are charged per person, not per group. Access and Senior pass discounts only apply to the cardholder. Drinking water and electricity for the electric fence surrounding the campground may not be available.
