Partial Reopening Of Pinto Basin Road

Release Date: August 30, 2013
Contact: Jennie Kish Albrinck, 760-367-5520

Pinto Basin Road, which was closed after a storm on August 25, will be partially reopened on Monday, September 2, 2013. The road will be opened for visitor use between Park Boulevard and the Ocotillo Patch parking area. This will allow visitors access to the popular Arch Rock Nature Trail and Cholla Cactus Garden.

Debris continue to block the road further south, but the remainder of the road and Cottonwood Campground are expected to reopen before September 9, 2013. Further flooding over the holiday weekend could alter this timeline. Updates will be issued as conditions change.

Flash floods often catch people unaware. Use extreme caution when traveling in flood prone areas. Do not enter washes when water is running. Be observant of National Weather Service alerts and forecasts.
