KIMBERLY, OREGON: John Day Fossil Beds National Monument has released a revision to the Superintendent’s compendium. The Superintendent’s compendium is a compilation of designations, closures, permit requirements, and other restrictions made by the superintendent for a specific National Park Service (NPS) area. These local regulations are in addition to regulations found in Title 36 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) (Chapter 1, Parts 1 through 7) which apply to all NPS areas, and other applicable federal statutes and regulations. The John Day Fossil Beds Superintendent’s compendium is available here.

Print versions are available at the Thomas Condon Paleontology Center or upon request by calling the park at 541-987-2333. This is the first revision of the John Day Fossil Beds compendium since 2014. Only a few changes were made in this revision regarding overnight parking and transporting a bow across NPS lands to hunt on adjacent non-NPS property.

“John Day Fossil Beds preserves world class plant and animal fossils. The Superintendent’s compendium is an important tool for protecting park resources and the visitor experience,” said Superintendent Shelley Hall. “I welcome public comments on this document at any time.” You may e-mail us comments or write to Superintendent, John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, 32651 Highway 19, Kimberly, OR 97848.
