Gwen Sullivan to serve as October 2016 Artist-In-Residence at Hot Springs National Park.

Throughout 2016, Hot Springs National Park has provided the opportunity for selected artists to live and work in the national park through a residence program in partnership with the National Park Service. Since April, seven artists-in-residence have created original works that communicate the themes of the national park, the National Park Service Centennial and their personal experiences through a variety of public programs.

The season’s eighth Artist-in-Residence, artist Gwen Sullivan of Gilbert, South Carolina, will serve with the national park from October 15 to October 29.  Gwen Sullivan holds an associate degree in Drafting and Design and has served as an Artist-in-Residence for South Carolina State Parks on several occasions. Her preferred mediums include acrylics and watercolors, but she will offer programming at Hot Springs National Park with oil and conduct experiments with ink making and watercolors.

During her residency, Gwen will present open art programs at the Ozark Bathhouse (425 Central Avenue) on Sunday, October 16 and Sunday, October 23; the programs, free and open to the public, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on both dates. Upon completion of her residency, Gwen will donate an original work to Hot Springs National Park’s permanent collection.
