Summer Campfire programs are back at Homestead National Monument of America! Thursday, July 4, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. there will be a presentation on “Foundation Documents: The Declaration of Independence and the Homestead Act” by Jonathan Fairchild, Historian at the monument. This campfire program will take place at Homestead National Monument of America’s Education Center.

Jonathan’s program features a group reading of the Declaration of Independence, a discussion on the history behind the Declaration, and on the link between the Homestead Act and the Declaration of Independence as “Milestone Documents” of American history.

Learn about our nation’s history and enjoy great music by Michael Murphy all at the same event. Michael Murphy is a folk musician based out of Omaha, Nebraska. He plays the guitar, piano, and Native American flute, and has been performing at Homestead National Monument of America for years, including during the Centennial Concert Series in 2016. A career highlight is his performing at the National Museum of the American Indian.

In the event of inclement weather, programs will be moved indoors. We also invite you back each Saturday through August 10, 2019, for a weekly campfire program! Visit https://www.nps.gov/home to learn more about the individual programs.
