May 4, 2026 Record of Determination for temporary closures of lower Bolivar Heights and Nash Farm for native grassland management activities Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 1.5, the National Park Service (NPS) will enact temporary closures of public use areas at lower Bolivar Heights and Nash Farm on May 5-6, 2026. These closures are necessary to maintain public health and safety and to implement park management responsibilities. The National Park Service (NPS) is rebuilding and improving native grasslands across parks in the eastern United States. Rebuilding grasslands preserves historic landscapes, restores native grasses and wildflowers, supports pollinators like bees and butterflies, provides habitat for birds and other wildlife, and protects rare species. To rebuild grasslands at lower Bolivar Heights and Nash Farm, NPS will use proven methods including herbicide application to control invasive species, mowing or cutting woody plants, and planting or seeding native plants. To maintain public health and safety during management operations, certified professionals will apply the herbicides and follow federal and state regulations. Informational and closure signs will be posted during herbicide treatments and up to 48 hours afterward. Areas to be temporarily closed are:
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 1.7, notice of temporary closures will be posted at trail and parking entry points to the above locations. Park website advisories may be posted depending on the timing of the temporary closure and staff availability.
