Guadalupe Mountains Paleontological Resource Protection Conference for Law Enforcement

Salt Flat, Texas – On Monday, October 22, 2018 from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Guadalupe Mountains National Park and the National Cave and Karst Research Institute (NCKRI) will offer a Paleontological Resource Protection Conference for local, state and federal law enforcement professionals. The conference will take place at the National Cave and Karst Research Institute, located at 400 Cascades Avenue, Carlsbad, New Mexico, in the John Heaton Building, located at 400-1 Cascades Avenue, Carlsbad, New Mexico. This event is free and open to all local, state and federal law enforcement professionals. Space is limited. Interested individuals can reserve space by contacting the Guadalupe Mountains Chief Ranger Cheri Dorshak at e-mail us or by calling (915) 828-3251.    
 
The information will be presented by National Park Service Senior Paleontologist Vincent Santucci. Conference materials will provide an overview of the Paleontological Resources Preservation Act (PRPA) of 2009, as well as the scope, significance, distribution, and threats associated with fossils. Content will include guidance on the management and protection of non-renewable paleontological resources and fossils from federal lands, and paleontological resource crime case studies.
