Preparing for the Next 100 Years

As Grand Teton National Park approaches its centennial in 2029, parkwide construction projects are improving roads, trails, and visitor facilities to support continued access and stewardship for generations to come. Note that roadway projects are listed with related impacts and plans on the road construction page.

Current Project Information

Mormon Row Historic District

Mormon Row Historic District is home to one of the most photographed buildings in the nation, the TA Moulton Barn. Construction has started to facilitate a better visitor experience in this area while pretecting nearby wildlife and vegetation.

Project Details: Mormon Row Historic District access will be improved with the development of a paved parking lot with designated tour bus parking, restrooms, and shade structures. The area near historic buildings will be improved with designated trails and viewing locations to protect natural and cultural resources that are prone to damage in the area. In 2027, a new Grand Teton Association facility will complete the project.

Timeframe: June 2026 - November 2026

Type of Impact: No impacts to access at this time.

Notes: Visitors will likely hear and see construction equipment in the vicinity of the historic district impacting the viewshed and soundscape of the area.

Taggart Lake Trail & Trailhead

Grand Teton National Park and the Grand Teton National Park Foundation are working together to renew the Taggart Lake Area.

Taggart Lake Trail, Trailhead, and adjacent areas are undergoing work to improve the visitor experience while safeguarding delicate natural resources at this popular destination.

Taggart Lake Trailhead will remain open throughout this season, though visitors will see ongoing construction work nearby. Trail work on the more popular shorter route to the north is underway and will last the season. This section of the trail will be closed all season. Visitors can access Taggart Lake from the south via the longer steeper route (4.24 miles / 711 feet elevation gain - one way).

Project Details: Taggart Lake Trailhead will be redeveloped to accommodate 140 vehicles, including designated spots for horse trailers and campers. Additional features will include a new hiker staging area, restrooms, and water bottle filling station. The easier shorter route to Taggart Lake from the north will be closed for renewal in 2026.

Timeframe: May 2026 - 2027

Type of Impact: Partial Closure

Notes: Taggart Lake will only be accessible to hikers from the south, via the longer steeper route (4.24 miles / 711 feet elevation gain - one way).

For your safety, do not enter closed areas or use trails that are under construction.

Project Details: Cottonwood Creek Picnic Area will be updated to better accommodate large vehicles and additional features including picnic tables and stream access will be added.

Sagebrush Connector

Grand Teton Pathway is a part of an extensive pathway system that connects various communities in Teton County to destinations within the park like Jenny Lake and Moose Landing. The Sagebrush Connector will be an addition to the pathway system, just west of the Gros Ventre Roundabout.

Project Details: A new paved path will be installed alongside Sagebrush Drive to facilitate safe transit of bikers and walkers to the Grand Teton Pathway, and the broader pathway system of Teton County.

Timeframe: 2025 - September 2026
